Report of week ending 3 July

Four wins and one loss for the five Saturday League sides who played with relatively low scoring games for the second week running.

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI entertained high flying Bentley 1st XI and winning the toss invited them to bat on a drying wicket.  The visitors were bowled out for 129 in 34 overs, Matt Gilmore taking 4-13, Ian Bryant 2-25 and Richard Abley 2-30. A second wicket partnership of 67 between Will Nolde (55) and opener Andy Impey put Rayleigh in a strong position with 56 overs to get the runs but a mid-order batting collapse and a long batting tail meant yet another tense finish but with Andy Impey carrying his bat for 40 not out Rayleigh squeezed home by 3 wickets.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 2.  The 2nd XI visited Little Waltham 1st who batted first and totalled 261-5.  In reply Rayleigh were bowled out for 93, Matt Lennox (52) top scoring.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 5. The 3rd XI were due to play Roxwell Blues who have dropped out of the League so had no game this weekend.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 7. The 4th XI entertained Rayleigh Fairview 2nd XI who batted first and were bowled out for 160, Nick Green taking 5-21 and Jess Walker 4-28.  Richard Verrinder (28), Phil Wolff (27*) and Brad Walker (26) saw the home side by 3 wickets.

This decision almost proved disastrous but they scraped home by one wicket, Mihir Patel (17) top scoring.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 11.  Bottom of the table Hornchurch Athletic 4th XI were the visitors to the 6th XI who batted first. Paul Spratt (51) and Mark Bailey (27) gave the home side an excellent start but after that wickets regularly and the side was bowled out for 123. This total proved too much for the visitors who managed 84 all out, Rebecca Holyoak taking 3-21, Elliot Ward 3-22 and Sabu 3-24 to give the 6th XI victory by 39 runs.
