It was another action-packed Saturday of cricket at Rayleigh CC, though unfortunately, the results didn’t quite swing our way. With just two wins from six league fixtures, it was a tough weekend overall – but it was lit up by a truly spectacular performance from the 2nd XI.
The 2nd team put on a masterclass against Stock, racking up a massive 309-2 before cruising to a comprehensive 127-run victory. Ben Francis was the undisputed star of the show, smashing a sensational 168 not out from just 136 balls. Not to be outdone, Ryan Hart spearheaded the bowling attack, dismantling the opposition to claim his maiden league five-wicket haul with brilliant figures of 5-42 off 9 overs.
The 6th XI also turned in an excellent performance against Springfield. With Admirals Park out of action, the 6ths were asked to travel to the outer reaches of North Essex for a fixture at West Mersea. Sent in to bowl first, Rayleigh did a superb job of restricting Springfield to 160-7. The chase was then anchored by Dave Turner, who carried his bat for a Geoff Boycott-esque 46 not out off 100 balls. Turner’s patient masterclass laid the foundation, allowing Oliver Milchard to inject some late fireworks with a brisk 23 not out to see the 6ths home with four overs to spare.
World Cup Saturday at the Club
With league matches wrapping up in the afternoon, it’s the perfect excuse to skip the rush to head home, avoid cooking, and just enjoy a proper night at the club with friends.
All members, partners, and friends are welcome to head down – grab some food and enjoy the evening – the more the merrier. Whether you’re playing in the afternoon or just looking for a relaxed spot to watch the game and catch up with mates, we’d love to see you there.
This Week at the club
Player of the Week
Despite some excellent performances across the Club during week eight of the league season, there really is only one performance that deserves POTW accolade… Take a bow, Mr Chairman!
Ben hit a sensational 168*, carrying his bat through 45 overs helping the 2nd XI to an emphatic victory against Stock at the weekend. Not only that, his score is the third highest in the Club’s history on the New Ground at Rawreth Lane and his second highest personal score. Well done, Ben!

Week Eight LEague Summary
It was a poor week for the Club, with only two wins secured from our league games. However, there were some strong performances elsewhere and great individual performances across the Club.
