Two wins and three defeats for the Club’s five league teams on another cold and damp Saturday

The 1st XI entertained Writtle and batting first scored 207 all out, Jason Ox top scoring with 49. In reply Writtle scored 144 to give the 1st XI a good win against the top side in a topsy turvy season.

The 2nd XI visited Ingatestone 2nd XI who batted first and scored 203–9, Richard Abley taking 4–31. In a close finish the 2nd XI fell 2 short on 210–9, Phil Wolff (61) and John Stirk (36) leading the reply.

The 3rd XI were at home to Burnham Sports 2nd XI, who batted first and scored 170–9, Tom Chase taking 4–30. Only Georger Barker (35*) batted well as the the 3rd XI fell 40 runs short.

The 4th XI played Eastwood 3rd XI and scored 199–4, Brad Walker top scoring. Eastwood passed this score on the last ball for the loss of 7 wickets.

The 5th XI played Eastwood 4th XI who batted first and at 67–0 looked set for a high score but they collapsed to 94 all out, Christian Humphries taking 4–9. The 5th XI batting struggled again but with Phil Hammond hitting 26 managed to win by 2 wickets.

The Women & Girls XI entertained Old Chelmsfordians and batting first were 6 for 2 off 5 overs. Lorraine Frost and Elinor Harwood-white both retired with 25 not out and the side finished on 74–4. OCs looked to be heading for a 10 wicket victory at 64–0 but Lorraine Frost took 2 wickets and Sophie Lennox one before the total was passed.

Mid week league

The Midweek XI went across town to Rayleigh Fairview who batted first and scored 112 in their 20 overs. Rayleigh passed this score for the loss of 8 wickets, Matt Williams (34), Martin Sanderson (30*) and Jason Ox (23*) leading the scoring.

Friendles

The Saturday 6th XI entertained a depleted Rayleigh 4th XI in a 40 over game at Gloucester Park and batting first scored 186–5, John Dray scoring 48. Matt Cooper loaned to Fairview for the afternoon took 2–12 off 8 overs. Fairview chased well but fell short by 18 runs.

The Sunday XI batted first against Chadwell Heath and scored 187, Jason Ox (44*) top scoring. Chadwell Heath knocked the runs off for the loss of 5 wickets.

South Essex District League. The Under15As lost a high scoring game at Hadleigh & Thundersley by 9 runs, Hadleigh scoring 123–6 and in reply Rayleigh 114–6, George Barker scoring 30* (more). The Under15Bs played Basildon Under 15s, Basildon batting first and scoring 144–4, Rayleigh replying with 73–8. The Under13Bs played Old Southendians U13Bs, who batted first and scored 126–3. In reply Rayleigh scored 93-6. The Under11As played Hadleigh U11s and won comfortably, Matt Dobson hitting 26 off 12 balls and the Under11Bs beat Orsett U11Bs by 61 runs, Harry Donaghue and Joseph Peppiatt both taking 3 wickets.
