A much better week for the club, with three wins for the adult league teams and some good performances from the colts. Please find below a roundup of all results from the past seven days, including individual performances and notices/reminders for members.
Notices:
- Nets – the new net facility at Rawreth Lane can now be used by members outside of pre-arranged sessions. Members should read the attached policy which relates to net usage. You can request the code to the nets from Tom (tompeppiatt96@gmail.com). Nets are only to be used by playing members and under-18s need to be supervised by a responsible adult. Use of the nets is subject to availability and pre-arranged sessions take priority. Using the nets is deemed as acceptance of the aforementioned policy.
- Neil Nobles 50th Birthday – the club is holding a BBQ after matches have finished on Saturday 9th July. All members are invited, and the bar will be open till late. Come down and celebrate Neil’s birthday with fellow members.
- Presidents Week – the club is working hard to arrange a fantastic week for members in honour of president’s week (1st August to 7th August). Full details will be cascaded to members shortly, but will include a John Monk Presidents XI vs. Club XI
Adult Results:
All adult teams played their scheduled fixtures at the weekend.
Saturday proved to be a more successful day for the club than previous weeks, with three wins and some close games.
Top batting performances include:
- James Offer – 119* from 76 balls
- Rebecca Walker – 90 from 76 balls
- Nathan Ray – 67* from 89 balls
- Steve Adams – 62 from 65 balls
- Steven Lynch – 59* from 59 balls
- Geoff Morgan – 59 from 54 balls
- James Isherwood – 51* from 35 balls
- Toby Turner – 50* (retired) from 20 balls
Top bowling performances include:
- Cam Mantle – 8-1-34-3 @ avg. 11.33
- Nick Green – 9-1-28-3 @ avg. 9.33
- Zach Skillett – 8-0-54-3 @ avg. 18.00
- Yousuf Khan – 7-0-38-3 @ avg. 12.60
1st XI
The 1st XI hosted Little Baddow at home. Rayleigh won the toss and put Little Baddow into bat. Baddow got off to a quick start, with Mahmood (177) scoring his third ton of the season for the opposition. Little Baddow finished on 321-5. Calum Mayfield was the pick of the Rayleigh bowlers, taking two wickets (9-0-60-2).
Rayleigh made a good start with Rob Littler (30) and Jon Cook (42) scoring quickly. Unfortunately, tight bowling from the opposition kept wickets flowing and Rayleigh were bowled out for 208 in 33 overs. RCC lost by 113 runs.
2nd XI
The 2s travelled to Great Wakering, losing the toss and fielding first. Rayleigh made a good start and took wickets regularly throughout the opposition’s innings, bowling Wakering out for 146. Cam Mantle (8-1-34-3) and Nick Green (9-1-28-3) were the pick of the bowlers.
Rayleigh were able to easily chase down the required runs in under 30 overs. Steven Lynch (59*), Richard Nolde (25) and Jake Ashworth (24) leading the scoring. RCC won by 7 wickets.
3rd XI
The 3s welcomed Boreham and Roxwell to the old ground. Captain Gosling won the toss and batted first, scoring 249-6 from their 45 overs. Steve Adams (62) led the scoring, supported by James Isherwood (51*) and John Wright (43).
Rayleigh restrained the opposition with tight bowling from all bowlers. Tom Godfrey (9-5-20-2) and Sam Levett (9-1-41-2) were the pick of the bowlers. RCC won by 101 runs.
4th XI
The 4th XI made the long journey to play South Loughton on Saturday. South Loughton won the toss and decided to bat first. Rayleigh made a good start with the ball, but South Loughton managed to post 245 all out (losing their last wicket on the last ball of the match). Zach Skillett (8-0-54-3) and Geoff Morgan (8-1-34-2) were the pick of the bowlers, but Josh Mantle, Sam Skillett and Duncan Bond also bowled well and grabbed a wicket each against some good batting.
In reply, Rayleigh were 30-5 from, but a solid partnership between Mark Bailey (35) and Geoff Morgan (59) helped Rayleigh to 144-6. Unfortunately, the tail didn’t wag and RCC were bowled out for 174 from 38 overs. RCC lost by 71 runs.
5th XI
The 5s welcomed Eastwood to the third pitch. Captain Turner lost the toss and were asked to field first. Eastwood batted well on a good batting track, scoring 246-5 from 40 overs. Kuldeep Paik (4-0-25-2) and Ryan Hart (5-0-30-2) made some good inroads.
Rayleigh started shakily, losing a few quick wickets; however, this was quickly rectified by James Offer (119*) and Rebecca Walker (90) who put on an incredible 190 run partnership for the 3rd wicket. James scored his century in just over an hour, hitting 14 fours and 7 sixes. Rayleigh were able to surpass Eastwood’s target with 8 overs and 7 wickets to spare. RCC won by 7 wickets.
6th XI
The 6s travelled to Danbury to play Oaklands 1st XI. Skipper Paul Cox won the toss and elected to field first. Oaklands were able to score 231-9 from their allocated overs. Charlie Jowers (6-0-30-2), Sangeet Prasad (6-0-40-2) and Jack Andrews (5-0-43-2) were the pick of the bowlers.
In response, Rayleigh lost quick wickets which put them behind initially. Thanks to some good batting from Josh Francis (33*), Jack Andrews (28) and Steve Rothon (25), Rayleigh were able to reach 146 all out. RCC lost by 85 runs.
7th XI
The 7s made the long journey to Gray’s to play a friendly against Orsett. Orsett batted first and scored 276-8 in a 35 over game. Yousuf Khan was the pick of the bowlers, returning figures of 7-0-38-3.
Rayleigh lost some quick wickets in reply, but a fantastic 67* from Nathan Ray helped solidify RCCs innings. Rayleigh were unfortunately bowled out for 150. RCC lost 126 runs.
Sunday XI
The Sunday team welcomed Horndon to Rawreth Lane. Captain Calum Mayfield won the toss and batted first. Rayleigh started well with Toby Turner scoring a quick fire half-century (50* from 20 balls). Sam Harmsworth also hit a measured 45* and Josh Francis batted (20) batted well.
Rayleigh reduced Horndon to 60-8 within the first 15 overs after some well targeted bowling from Tom Neale-Peppiatt (7.3-1-32-2), Thomas Lloyd (3-0-15-2) and debutant George Abbott (3-0-35-2). Despite this, Horndon were able to recover and passed Rayleigh’s target in the 36th over despite several chances and a very close LBW shout in the last over of the game. Calum Mayfield also recorded economical figures (8-2-19-1). RCC lost by 1 wicket.
Colt Results:
The U13 Eagles welcomed Leigh-on-Sea to Rawreth Lane. Leigh batted first, posting 115-8. In reply, Rayleigh posted 68-7. Lewis Mills (13) top scoring. RCC lost by 47 runs.
The U15 Eagles travelled to Hadleigh to play a league game. Hadleigh batted first and posted 105-9. Ben Hoskins and Josh Mantle both took two wickets each. Rayleigh chased down the target with 5 overs and 1 wicket remaining. RCC won by 1 wicket.
What’s on?
- Thursday 23rd June – The U15 Eagles play at home. The bar will be open throughout.
- Friday 24th June – Rayleigh Ladies host Hatfield Peveral at home. The bar will be open.
- Saturday 25th June – 2nd, 4th and 5th team play at home. The 1s, 3s, and 6s play away. The 7s travel to Old Chelmsfordians for a friendly.
- Sunday 26h June – Sunday XI play Little Baddow away; U15s and U13s play colt fixtures (tbc.)
- The BBQ organised for Saturday 25th June has been cancelled
