Weekly report – 5th May 2019

Not a great day for the start of the League season with cold winds and frequent showers. One win, one tie and four defeats for our six Saturday League sides.

T Rippon Mid Essex Premier Division.  The 1st XI hosted Stock 1st XI and batting first in a game shortened to 33 overs scored 196-7, Ben Francis (45), Dan Frost (37) and Nick Gosling (30) leading the scoring. In reply Stock scored 177-5, Ian Turnbull taking 3-62.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 2.  The 2nd XI visited Terling 1st XI who batting first totalled166-8, Aaron Acraman taking 3-42. In their innings Rayleigh subsided to an all out total of 84, only James Ellis (33) making any real contribution to the score.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 5. The 3rd XI entertained St Johns Billericay 1st XI who batted first and scored 146-6 in their 42 overs, Calum Mayfield (3-42). Mike Law (48*), Tom Osbourne (33) and David Cox (27) chased the target valiantly but the team fell agonisingly short by 3 runs.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 6. The 4th XI travelled to Brookweald 2nd XI, and batting first scored 134-9, Matt Walker (25) top scoring. The home side passed this target for the loss of 3 wickets, Aaron Mayfield 2-34.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 9. The 5th XI travelled to Chelmsford to play Beaulieu Park 2nd who batted first and scored 156-5, Lee Lambert taking 2-22. Simon Lennox (62), Duncan Baldwin (26) and Steve Rothon (26) led the reply and needing five to win of the last ball the batsmen ran four to tie the scores in an exciting finish.

T Rippon Mid Essex League Division 10. The 6th XI hosted Great Waltham 3rd XI and batting first scored 163-7, James Bumpus (39) and Richard Verrinder (37) top scoring. The visitors passed this score for the loss of 4 wickets, Paul Cox taking 2-50.

Beaumont Seymour League. The Women and Girls XI hosted Maldon Ladies on a dark and wet evening and played a game shortened to 16 overs. Maldon were bowled out for 90, Lorraine Frost taking 4-7 and Katrina Mayfield 3-17. Rayleigh passed this score for the loss of 4 wickets, Zoe Williams (27*) and Sophie Lennox (26*).

Friendly game. The Saturday 7th XI travelled to play Tillingham 3rd XI, who batting first scored 195-3 in a 35 over game. Chris Grob (38*) carried his bat for the visitors and the innings ended on 92-7.

Under 15 Peters Cup. Rayleigh scored 85-6 in a 20 over game, Senith Fernando, (22) and James Balkwill (22*). Hadleigh & Thundersley passed this score in the 17th over for the loss of 5 wickets, Freddie Noble (2-4).
