League Game
Team: Adam Bailey, Joe Barnett†, Jamie Coleman, Alex Dawkins, Aaron Golstein, Jack Hadlow, Tom King, Tom Lopez, Kian Norton-Reeves, Craig Smith*, David Watts.
SOSEMT visited us at Rawreth Lane for this week’s league game. Craig Smith, captain, won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Tom King and Jamie Coleman opened and from the off SOSEMT scored at over 5 runs an over with a 4 ball being offered, and accepted, in most overs. Alex Dawkins and Craig tried to hold SOSEMT back but despite a superb dismissal from Craig who hit the stumps directly to run out one of the openers, things continued well for SOSEMT. Both Tom Robinson and Harry Seaden retired not out with 25. Whilst the new batters still hit the bad ball we started to give extras away. Adam Bailey took a catch, which was nice, but the run rate kept climbing until SOSEMT finished on 145 for 3 – a third of which being extras. A steep ask given our recent batting performances.
Joe Barnett and Alex opened the batting looking to score but not lose wickets. The bowling was a bit short but neither player was able to take advantage early on. After 5 overs we were on 12 with the sixth being a wicket maiden for Lucas Wiggins. Alex departed, bowled, and Craig came out already thinking we needed to push the scoring on. 13 runs came from the 8th over giving hope but wickets fell in the 9th and 11th over leaving us needing nearly 2 runs a ball for the rest of the innings.
It was too much. Although Joe retired on 28 not out and David Watts tried his best we finished on 89 for 7, 56 runs behind. Aaron Golstein, for the first time, finished not out whilst Tom King, knowing the game was beyond us played for his average and remained not out.
Next week: no game at present.
