A mixed set of results for the Saturday XIs with three wins and four defeats for the Saturday XIs. The Presidents week with two wins and one loss and the Charity sixes on Sunday ran succesfully.
The 1st XI hosted Stock 1st XI and batting first were bowled out for 142, Danny White top scoring with 46. This score didn\’t look enough but excellent bowling by Matt Gilmore 4-17 and Keith Sharp 4-34 saw the visitors bowled out for 98. This result just lifts the 1st XI out of the relegation positions but at least two more wins are likely to be needed to stay in the Premier Division.
The 2nd XI visited top of the table Hornchurch Athletic 1st XI and totalled 187-8, Chris Frost (59) leading the scoring. In a tense last ball finish Hornchurch passed this score to win by 2 wickets. A very encouraging performance against strong opposition.
The 3rd XI entertained Aythorpe Roding 2nd XI and scored 247-9. In reply Aythorpe totalled 220-8 to keep the 3rd XI a promotion spot.
The 4th XI travelled to Tillingham 2nd XI and batting first scored 220-5, Daryl Ox and Brad Walker both scoring 55. In another close finish the hosts won by 1 wicket in the last over.
The 5th XI were at home to a strengthened Billericay St Johns 2nd XI and batting first were bowled out for 85, which score the visitors passed for the loss of 5 wickets leaving the 5th XI in danger of relegation.
The 6th XI travelled to Chelmsford to play Little Baddow 3rd and asked to bat struggled to a total of 95 all out against a very accurate bowling attack. The home side passed this score for the loss of five wickets.
In a friendly against Horndon 4th XI, the 7th XI scored 146, Alec Bateman (51) scoring a maiden half century. In reply Horndon scored 141-5 to gve the 7th XI a five run victory.
In three midweek friendlies the Club had wins against Rankins and Old Victorians but lost to Ashingdon. The club six-a-side on Sunday was won by Dawby\’s Barmy Army : Rebecca Holyoak, Jason Ox, David Cox, Matthew Walker, Liam Druce and Brian Dawbarn.
