The 1st XI travelled to second in the table Stock 1st who batting first smashed 322-4 off their 45 overs. The 1st XI never looked like reaching this total despite useful knocks by Danny White (61) and Jon Cook (48) and were eventually bowled out for 202 to lose by 120 runs. This second defeat in a row has allowed the next two sides to close the gap on Rayleigh\’s lead.
The 2nd XI entertained Little Baddow 2nd XI and bowled them out for 94, Liam Druce taking 4-38. At 2-2 the target looked rather more substantial but a patient innnings by skipper Chris Frost (37*) saw the home side pass the required total with the loss of 4 wickets.
The 3rd XI were away to Rettendon 2nd XI who batting first scored 179-6. In reply the 3rd XI scored 171-9 to lose by 8 runs.
The 4th XI were due to play Sandon Sports 2nd XI but the opposition were unable to raise a side so the 4th XI suffered another Saturday without cricket this time on a lovely sunny day!
The 5th XI played Eastwood 4th XI at Purleigh. Batting first the 5th XI scored 206-8, Taha (48), Tony Catling (35) and Alex James (35*) top scoring. Eastwood were bowled out for 153, Andy James taking 3-11 and Taha 2-14.
The 6th (Dragons) XI were at home to great Baddow 4th XI. Batting first the 6s made 212-7, Chris slough (42), Jack Himpfen-Jones (37) and Luke Keeley (34) leading the scoring. Great Baddow were bowled out for 156, Sean Grob taking 3-37, Josh Jones 2-13 and Conor Slough 2-18.
The 6th (Eagles) XI played Wenlock Arms at Rawreth Lane and totalled 190-5, Murray Hall scoring 71*. Wenlock passed this total with 1 wicket to spare, Nathan Healey guesting for the visitors top scoring with 34 and Sam Verrinder taking 3-13.
On Sunday the Club ran a Women & Girls 8 a side Festival, which attracted teams from Belhus, Benfleet, Bentley, Great Waltham, Old Chelmsfordians and Rayleigh. Each side played 2 games in a 3 team league format and then a further game against a team from the other league. The final saw Benfleet edge out last year\’s winners, Old Chelmsfordians, by 2 runs. Despite two heavy showers all the players seemed to enjoy the day.
