Weekly Round Up: Pre-Season Edition 2025

We’re just a week away from the start of the cricket season – and it can’t come soon enough! Match balls have been collected, captains are checking availability and excitement is building for what promises to be a great 2025 season at the club. Fingers crossed the weather plays ball for our opening matches on Saturday 19th, so we can get the season underway in style.

This is the first of our new weekly newsletters. As mentioned in our last edition, these take a bit of time to pull together, and we’d love to get more people involved. If you’re interested in supporting the club by contributing—whether that’s writing match reports, helping captains, or uploading scorecards to Play-Cricket—please get in touch with Tom Peppiatt at tom@rayleighcc.com. Every bit of help goes a long way.

We’re looking forward to seeing you at the club next week—whether it’s for training, our opening league fixtures, or at Chairman’s Night on Friday 18th (more on that below).

All the best,

Ben Francis

Fantasy Cricket League

With the new season just around the corner, it’s time to sign up to the Rayleigh CC Fantasy Cricket League.

For just £10, you can enter your own fantasy team, with payments made via the fantasy league website. Team scores are automatically updated each week using Play Cricket data, so you can track your progress as the season unfolds.

Prizes this year have been increased (by popular demand) – with 1st place now receiving £100, 2nd place £50 and 3rd place £25.

Chairman’s Night: 18th April

Join us for Chairman’s Night as we gear up for the new season!

The newly refurbished bar opens at 19:00. Expect pool and darts tournaments running throughout the night. Light snacks will also be provided.

Don’t miss out on a great evening to kick off the season in style!

Working Day a Success

A big thank you to everyone who came down for our Working Day on Saturday 12th April. We had a fantastic turnout—over 20 members lent a hand, which is a huge improvement on previous years.

Plenty was achieved: the new sight screens at the Old Ground are now prepped, sponsorship boards are up, the new ‘broadcast view’ livestream camera has been installed (see above), and repairs to the nets, outfield, and pitch have all been tackled.

We really appreciate everyone who gave up their time, and a special thanks goes to Matt Walker and Brad Walker for organising and leading the day.

Outdoor Training & Use of the Nets

With the excellent spring weather we are currently enjoying, we’re pleased to confirm that outdoor training for adults and colts will soon begin at Rawreth Lane.

Adult/Women nets start Monday 14th, running each Monday and Thursday between 6pm and 8pm.

Colts training has already started and runs each Tuesday from 6pm.

Find out more on how to book the nets outside pre-arranged training sessions below
