League cricket has finally returned to Rawreth Lane! The weather and poor ground conditions still played a part in the results this week and unfortunately the Midweek, Ladies and 5th XI had their games cancelled.

Club Updates
It’s been great to finally see some more cricket being played this week. Thank you to all who stayed down the club on Saturday evening and celebrated Freddy Noble’s 18th Birthday. It was a great evening and lovely to see so many new and old members in attendance.

Results
Under 15 Eagles:
On Monday 8th May, the U15s hosted Southend-on-Sea & EMT Scorpions at Rawreth Lane. Captain Henry Murrell won the toss and batted first. Rayleigh started well, with Sam Keene (40*) and Josh Francis (30) sharing an opening 52 partnership, followed closely by a 50 run partnership between Sam and Henry Murrell (37*). Matt Setters added a quick fire 15 not out, setting a commanding total in difficult conditions of 133-1 from 20 overs.
In reply, SOSEMT started well and put on 85 for the first two wickets, although tight bowling soon saw wickets tumble for the opposition. Sam Keene was the pick of the bowlers (2-1-2-3), supported by Benny Mahoney, Henry Murrell, Luke Gould and Ryan Hart who all took a wicket each. Rayleigh won by 19 runs.

Adult Weekend Teams:
The 1st XI hosted Springfield 2nd XI in Division One of the T-Rippon League. Captain Littler lost the toss and the opposition put Rayleigh into bat. Danny Frost top scored with 27 from 22 balls, supported by Jess Walker (26) and JC (15) – putting on 137-10. In reply, the visitors started well but soon lost quick wickets. Danny Frost (9-2-18-3), Jason Ox (9-0-47-3) and Mihir Patel (9-0-26-3) all took three wickets each leaving Springfield unable to chase down the total, finishing on 135 all out. Rayleigh won by 2 runs.
The 2nd XI made the journey to Great Waltham in division three of the league. Matt Walker won the toss and fielded first, with Great Waltham posting 242-5 from their 45 overs. Sam Harmsworth, back bowling seam up, was the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets from nine overs (9-1-43-3). In reply, Rayleigh made a good start with Richard ‘Specialist Fielder’ Nolde hitting 70, supported by Sam Keene (28), Lee Hawkins (29) and Sam Harmsworth (27*). Unfortunately, Rayleigh were unable to reach the total set by Great Waltham and finished on 217-8 from 45 overs. Rayleigh lost by 25 runs.
The 3rd XI played Brookweald in their division seven clash at Rawreth Lane. Batting first in difficult conditions, Rayleigh posted 144-5. Kalpesh Patel top scoring with 38* from 63 balls. In reply, Brookweald were skittled for 83 runs thanks to excellent bowling from Ben Hoskins (7-0-17-3), Kalpesh Patel (6-0-8-2) and John Wright (7-1-14-2). Rayleigh won by 61 runs.
The 4th XI made the journey to Stock to start their division nine campaign against St Johns Billericay. Rayleigh won the toss and bowled first, with the opposition posting a commanding 212-3 from 40 overs. Freddie Ashworth took two wickets (7-0-41-2), but Zach Skillett (8-0-29-0) and Sam Skillett (7-0-34-0) also bowled well and were unlucky to not take wickets. In reply, Rayleigh started slowly and didn’t really get going with the exception of an excellent innings from Josh Francis (44), supported by Martin Sanderson (37*), with Rayleigh slumping to 133-3. Rayleigh lost by 79 runs.
The 6th XI visited Purleigh to play Tillingham in division eleven. Batting first, the 6s posted 113-7 from 40 overs. Captain Bond top scoring with 20, supported by Phil Hammond (19) and Co-Captain Simon Lennox (16). In a close game, Tillingham managed to reach 114-9 in the penultimate ball of the game. Mark Callaway was the pick of the bowlers (7.5-1-15-3), with Andy James and Duncan Bond both taking two wickets each. Rayleigh lost by 4 wickets.
The 7th XI hosted Old Chelmsfordians at Sweyne Park School. Batting first, OC’s scored 145-6 from 40 overs. All bowlers contributed, with Terry Martin (5-1-9-2) being the highlight of the bowling. Rayleigh battled well in response, with Joe Peppiatt (51*) batting through the innings and scoring the winning runs to reach his first half century – supported by Terry Martin (36). Rayleigh won by 4 wickets.
The Sunday XI travelled to the Old County Ground to play Brentwood Victorians in a friendly fixture. Batting first, Rayleigh scored 187 all out from 39.3 overs. James Offer top scored with 41 from just 24 balls (3 fours and 3 sixes), supported by Matt Walker (40). Brentwood lost a wicket in the first over of their innings, but rebuilt quickly. The game went down to the last over of the game, but Brentwood were able to chase down the total with three balls to spare. Sam Keene was the highlight of the bowling attack, taking two wickets. Rayleigh lost by 7 wickets.
Under 11 Owls:
The U11s started the SECPG U11 League against Westcliff-on-Sea on Sunday. Batting first, Rayleigh scored 76-5 (251 Net). Westcliff couldn’t quite manage to reach the total set by Rayleigh, scoring 67-7 (232 Net). Avyukt Sharma, Jamie Murray and Arvin Ghataura taking two wickets each. Rayleigh won by 19 runs.
