29th & 30th April Fixtures

The 2023 cricket season has not got off to the best of starts, with the last two weeks of fixtures cancelled due to poor ground conditions. The weather has unfortunately not improved and the management committee has taken the difficult decision to cancel the following games this weekend:

  • 1st XI vs. Rettendon 1st XI
  • 3rd XI vs. Little Baddow 2nd XI
  • 5th XI vs. Basildon and Pitsea 4th XI
  • Sunday XI vs. Southend-on-Sea & EMT XI

These games have been cancelled due to the continued poor conditions on all three home grounds. Our resident groundsman, Chris, and Grounds Managers, Matt and Brad, are working hard to ensure the league season can start as planned at the club on Saturday 6th May. With better weather forecast for next week, we are confident all games should go ahead as planned.

1st XI Captain, Rob Littler said:

Although it’s frustrating for players, and I know we’re all keen to get outside and start the season strongly, we need to protect the ground for the volume of cricket being played throughout the season. Various members of the management committee have reviewed the conditions on all three grounds this week and we do not feel the current conditions would be safe for players or provide a fulfilling game of cricket.

With the weather forecast improving over the coming days, we hope members are excited to get out onto the field for the start of the league season on 6th May.

In addition, the 2nd XI fixture against Basildon and Pitsea CC was cancelled by the opposition.

The 4th XI fixture against Eastwood 3rd XI is still scheduled to go ahead at Belfairs Park.
