Presidents Week:

The club held our annual President’s Week between 1st and 7th August, with something on down the club every day throughout the week.

On Monday 1st, due to the planned opposition pulling out, the club made the most of the day and held an interclub match between a Sam Harmsworth XI and Jake Ashworth XI. The latter posted 270-8 from 40 overs and the former replied with 209 all out. Steven Lynch hitting 51*, Ian Turnbull 46, Zach Skillett 41 and Sam Harmsworth 51*.

In reply, Rayleigh made a strong start with Ian Bryant (52*), Sam Harmsworth (59*) and Tom Peppiatt (27), leading the scoring for the first three wickets. Unfortunately, a mid-innings collapse saw Rayleigh come 37 runs short of their target.

On Wednesday 3rd, the club hosted the League Mid-Week Final. The event was well attended by club members.

On Thursday 4th, RCC Ladies took on East Anglia Veterans. Freya Barnard and Kat Mayfield captained the Rayleigh team and scored 182 in 29.3 overs. In reply, the Bairdy XI started well but could not chase down the target, eventually losing by 7 runs. Jon Cook (28*), Sam Law (25*), Darren Smith (22) and Danny White (22) led the scoring.

On Sunday, the annual Presidents Day match took place – this year between a Jonk Monk Presidents XI (captained by Brad Walker) and an RCC XI (captained by Tom Peppiatt). Tom lost the toss (for the eighth successive time in a row) and was asked to field first. The Presidents XI started well and posted 227-5 from their 35 overs. Steve Lynch (50*), Martin Sanderson (44), Steve Adams (51*), and John Hodges (22*) led the scoring. In reply, the RCC XI made a good start with Mark Bailey (22) and Rob Littler (31) holding a 58 runs partnership for the 1st wicket. Despite good batting from Jake Osborne (27), the RCC XI collapsed and were bowled out for 162 in 29 overs. Ben Francis was the pick of the bowlers, recording figures of 5-0-14-3. Special mention to Josh Francis, who batted through the innings with maturity.

I would like to personally thank all members who made the week special for the club and worked hard to ensure it was a great success. Thank you to Ian Bryant and Marie Kelly for catering for all events throughout the week. Also, a big thank you to the WalkersMayfields and Frosts for helping run the bar, lock up the club and ensure all games ran smoothly. Sorry if I have forgot anyone.
