Only one win on Saturday but Josh Jones takes 7-16 for Sunday XI v Tillingham

With two heavy downpours on Friday the prospects for cricket looked pretty poor again especially as both grounds were underwater in parts. However some welcome sunshine on Saturday morning meant that four games were played.

The 1st XI were at home to Little Waltham 1st XI and invited the visitors to bat in a game reduced to 35 overs with shortened boundaries. The tactic misfired however as the bowlers were unable to bowl at full pace which together with several missed catches enabled Great Waltham to amass a total 283-3. The 1st XI lost wickets steadily in their innings and only Danny White (84) looked likely to chase down the total and they were eventually all out for 244 and suffer their first defeat of the season.

The 2nd XI travelled to Little Waltham 2nd XI and batting first scored 202-9 Nick Gosling top scoring with 67. They the bowled out the hosts for 96, Sree taking 5-12 and Danny Frost 4-19.

The 4th XI were away at Rankins 3rd XI who scored 107-9 in their innings. In a disastrous start to the reply the 4th XI were 15-5 but recovered to an all out score of 87 to lose by 20 runs with Sam Verrinder top scoring with 22.

The 6th (Eagles) XI travelled to Hainult & Clayhall 6th XI, who batted first and scored 153, William Morris taking 3-23 and Alex James 2-1. The 6s scored 104 all out in their innings to lose by 49 runs in an enjoyable game.

The 3rd XI game v Danbury, the 5th XI game v South Woodham Ferrers 3rd XI and the 6th (Dragons) XI game v Westcliff 4th XI were all cancelled due to waterlogged pitches.

The Sunday XI visited Tillingham and bowled them out for 155. Josh Jones taking 7 for 16 in 8 overs. Rayleigh passed this score for the loss of 5 wickets, Matt Gilmore scoring 65 not out.
