Festival of Women & Girls cricket a great success despite some heavy rain

On Sunday, the Club organised a Festival of Women and Girls cricket with teams from Bentley, Great Waltham, Old Chelmsfordians and two from Rayleigh taking part in an eight a side competition. The format was for each team to play a seven over game against every other team with every player except the wicketkeeper bowling and for batters to rotate after each game so that everyone had a chance to bat. There was some excellent batting with quite a number of players having to retire having scored 15 runs and a superb left handed catch by the Great Waltham captain. The competition was played in an excellent spirit but rather spoilt by four heavy downpours, the last one of which meant that the last two games could not be finished. The competition was won by Old Chelmsfordians with 3 wins and an unfinished game. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves despite the weather and it is certainly planned to repeat the event next year. Thanks to everyone, too many to mention, who organised the Festival.
